New Product Alert: Fall Tote Bags

Shivangi Parikh

After bringing a pop of color and style to the yoga bag industry, I am super excited about our new tote bags! They are absolutely unique, stylish and blend eco-friendly fashion with durability.

The idea of any tote bag is very simple: a bag that is big enough to tote all your everyday essentials. While there are many tote bags in the market, what makes our totes unique is the Khadi fabric used for the body of the bag. Made from hand spun cotton-hemp blend, khadi is very strong just like linen, but without the huge price tag. Because it is spun, the fabric has a very natural, organic pattern and feel to it. The leather base and straps give it a classic, timeless look as well as provide support.

And we can all feel good about contributing to environment and economic sustainability: there are no chemicals or artificial fibers in the fabric, and the spinning is done by artisans in small villages and towns in India who depend on this income. Both factors are in line with the values of my shop, so I selected khadi over regular cotton canvas or linen.

Carry your everyday essentials like wallet, phone, tablet or similar portable device, make up, notebooks, shawl, you name it! There are two pockets for the smaller items as well. The tote has a tough cotton lining for extra strength and protection of items.

Here is one design, with more of the khadi as the body of the bag. The leather strip runs on the bottom one-third of the bag. Brass rivets add style to the leather straps. Available in 4 colors.

Here is another design with a flat, wider leather bottom base. Available in 3 colors.

Hope you like the designs! Aren't they just perfect for Fall? It is a different aesthetic than our colorful yoga bags, but variety is the spice of life :)

For more information about dimensions you can visit the shop page. Since this is a first run, only limited quantities are available.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

xo, Shiv :)

Yay! Forget these bags...I can code websites now!

Yay! Forget these bags...I can code websites now!

Hello friends!

It's new website is all ready to go and clearly I cannot wait to share it with you as I am writing this post at 4 am :)

So what is New about the site and what stays the same?

  • The new look is more clean and chic, in line with the kind of products we make. Also the layout is elegant enough to showcase our variety without being too overwhelming.
  • This one I am most excited about! There is more behind-the-scenes content in the About section, where I have detailed the process of how our items are created and what are our core principles. I have also outlined a separate page talking about the various fabrics we use and their history. I know a lot of you were interested in that :)
  • There is a new SHOP section, which will feature my latest collection, and you all will be the first to know about it through my newsletter. (The sign up link is at the bottom of the SHOP page)
  • The Blog page has a simple aesthetic that makes it easy to read without any distracting side bars! Most of the times I am talking about the simple things in life, about honesty and fear, about beauty in small things, so having a clean slate makes sense.

What Stays the same?

  • The core of our products remains the same, even though the visuals are different.
  • Commitment to creating a streamlined and hassle-free experience for our readers and buyers: we want to make sure you can get what you want without taking you on a long ride.
  • The interface is easily navigable on ALL devices, so you can pick up where you left off.
  • Your privacy remains our top concern and I promise not to share your information. Site host, Squarespace, is highly secure so you can be at ease.

So that's that! I hope you can take a peek around and shoot me a comment if you like, or Don't like anything :)

And because I am super excited about this, I am going doing my FIRST GIVEAWAY ever! Its very simple...just follow the instructions below and you are set.

A big thanks to each and every one of you for your support!

xoxo, Shiv

The First 100: It's About Perspective

Shivangi Parikh

The First 100_ShivamCreations

Living the life of a creative entrepreneur may seem like a dream to many, but it comes with its own share of nightmares. The ecstatic moments of creating something, visualizing something, can get completely shadowed by the logistical anxieties of selling it and actually earning a living from it.

Anyone who is trying to make a mark in the entrepreneur world is juggling many things: making, selling, marketing, making noise on social media, etc... I know because I struggle with all these things every single day. Especially social media: it is important for us to showcase our work but at the same time we can get easily overwhelmed with all the 'cool stuff that other people are posting'!

At such times, I try to think of one thing: Perspective. We have all heard it before: You cannot compare your beginning to their middle. If those 'cool folks' started 5 years ago, then there is no way for us to have the same traction as them. How easily we forget that!

So I created a small mantra that I use to regain my perspective, and I am sharing it here, hoping it can help you too, no matter what stage of your business or career you are in.

The First 100 Page Views are tough

The First 100 Page Likes are tougher

The First 100 Followers are the toughest

The First 100 Sales are tough

The First 100 reviews are tougher

The First 100 referrals are the toughest

I have made it through all these stages, except the last one. But it has taken me TWO YEARS to get here. Why it's taken me 6 months to get a 100 followers on Instagram and nearly two years to hit 180 Page Likes on Facebook. But I can safely say that I did it without paying for any ads, or any apps that let you get followers by the hundreds! These are people who are genuinely interested in what I have to offer. The sales and reviews are also organic growth, and there is only one way for them to grow: Up.

I have a long way ahead, very, very long, but all good things come with time and patience.

An Everlasting Gift for Valentine

Shivangi Parikh

Hello folks...

Are you all set for Valentines Day? If you are still looking for that special gift, or confused between buying a single rose or the entire store, I would like to suggest an alternative that is more elegant, romantic and long-lasting than the conventional gift of flowers.

Enter Amaranthus Paper & Flora, a mother-daughter makery that specializes in handcrafted crepe paper flowers. Just like its namesake, the "immortal" flower, Amaranthus Paper & Flora creates flowers that will last. Each flower is hand crafted one petal at a time, so no two are alike. The idea is simple: while live flowers are beautiful and brighten up any room, they are eventually going to die even with the best care. But with Amaranthus, your flowers will always ‘bloom’ all-year round. Aren't these flowers simply stunning and lively! When I first saw them, I thought they were real bouquets.

The team behind AP&F includes talented Nashville maker, and friend, Meredith Eastburn, an educator, artist, and designer who has always loved paper arts. I met Meredith during a CO.Starters business program last summer at The Skillery (an awesome coworking space for entrepreneurs in Nashville) where we were trying to navigate the entrepreneurship landscape. Meredith and her mother, Cherie who is based in Atlanta, combined their love of working with flowers to create AP&F in early 2014. Needless to say, their creations have been a hit!

I had honestly never paid attention to handmade paper flowers before, but as soon as I saw an individual stem in a vase at the CO.Starters table, I was in love with it. Everybody loves flowers, and if we cannot buy lavish gifts on every occasion, there is always the good old bouquet to fall back on. Why not just make it a more eco-friendly and long-lasting choice?

So as you contemplate what to get for your Valentine, I hope you will give this handmade team a shot. You can place the lovely blooms in your house or office space even after the dining and romance is done for the night. Each time you pass the flowers, you will be reminded of the wonderful memories, and that is the best gift of everlasting love :)

Have a great weekend!

(p.s. For those of you in Nashville, Meredith & co. will be at the Studio Be Valentine’s Market this Friday and Saturday. For non-locals, you can purchase on their website or Etsy shop.)
