True to the name 'Shivam' - consciousness, mindfulness, - we strive to make our items by re-using our existing resources, and natural, organic materials.

Our yoga mat bags are handmade using upcycled, vintage fabrics, while the aromatherapy eye pillows are filled with the healing goodness of organic lavender buds and organic flax seeds.

We hope to extend and share the journey of these goods as they make their way around the world. From our house to yours.

Welcome to my blog at Shivam Creations.

Shivam means mindfulness in Sanskrit; this space is about trying to lead a mindful life and the elements that go with it: yoga, healthy living, nature, and the creative forces within each of us.

Shivam Yoga Bags In The News + Spring Clearance!

Shivangi Parikh

Happy Friday Y'All! Just wanted to share two exciting bits today, so I will keep this short!

First, I am so honored and happy to be featured among the best handmade yoga bags on the highly competitive Etsy marketplace! Yoga practitioner and popular blogger, Marco Pino, did this write up about Shivam Creations after testing several yoga bags made by Etsy sellers. Since I couldn't embed the link, I am attaching a screen shot here, but you can read the full article on his blog here.

The way this story came about is quite a story by itself. Marco, who quit his corporate job in Europe in 2010, has been studying and practicing yoga all across the world since then. He started his blog, Path to Yoga, to share his experiences and knowledge about the yoga world, most notably in India and its surrounding countries. In fact, he was in Nepal last year during the devastating earthquake, and was instrumental in carrying food and supplies to villages in the deep mountains.

Marco reached out to me sometime early 2015 (Gosh, cant believe its been that long!) and talked about his story idea. He wanted to write an unbiased article about the best handmade yoga bags out there. I was excited to be part of the story and shipped him one of my top selling jute bags. But thats when the craziness began! First, he had given me his address in Nepal, but because his credit card still listed his Belgium address, Etsy's shipping software sent his bag to Belgium!! We realized it only while tracking the shipment. After many calls to the Belgium postal authorities, to no avail, we just hoped it would get sent back to me, or forwarded on to him in Nepal. And that is when the tragic earthquake struck and all mail was lost or delayed. In all the tragedy, my bag was the least of our worries, but after a month, we lost hope, AGAIN! Some time in early June, Marco made his way to Sri Lanka to learn and teach yoga. We still kept in touch in the hopes that the bag would turn up somewhere! And out of nowhere, six months after I shipped my bag, he received it in coastal Sri Lanka!! about luck!! And of course it took me another 6 months to share it here! Duh. So there you go..the journey of a yoga bag across three continents!

The second important news: I am having a massive Spring Clearance sale on ALL items over $39.99! Just use code CLEARANCE40 to get 40% off on my web shop or Etsy shop. The sale starts today and will run till March 26th. I have some exciting new products in the wings and want to clear out excess inventory before bringing them on board.

That is all the news from my end. Hope you have a wonderful weekend :)

New Collection Preview!

Shivangi Parikh

Hello Folks... Hope your year is going well so far! I am super excited to share with you the latest on my end. If you recollect, I had talked about trying to introduce at least one new product type each year. Last year was about hand spun khadi tote bags and wallets. This year, my heart is set on making table linens from the the same khadi material! Here is a sneak peek at my first attempt.

Gray Warli Napkins_ShivamCreations

The dinner napkins feature screen printed folk art on khadi fabrics. The unique cotton linen blend makes it a great choice for the table: its super absorbent and gets thicker and softer with every wash. The texture of the fabric makes it look rich without hurting the wallet as much, which suits most savvy shoppers ;)

This print below is a traditional folk art called Warli painting, which comes from the Western region of India and dates back thousands of years. These simple stick like figures were used to depict various natural elements of earth, as well as daily life and activities of that era.

For the initial launch, I have only made one set of 6 napkins each in these different Warli options shown below.

Here is one of my favorite colors, peacock blue. The gold feather just makes it look like a luxury item! Some of you may have seen this recently on my Instagram or Facebook page. I think this one would be a great addition to a Spring or Summer brunch, don't you?

You can find more information about sizing, and check out more detailed pictures of the entire collection here.

I know these seem like a departure from my core yoga bags business, but trust me, its not. My yoga bags are going to be around till those fabrics and trims last! But being a creative, I cannot just stick to one design! lol. There is this constant need to reinvent my work. The core remains the same though: Making something that is stylish, functional and eco-friendly. These napkins are a great way to add zing to your place settings, while investing in something that you can use and re-use, instead of just buying disposable paper napkins.

Hope you like these!! Which one is your favorite??

Have a great weekend :)

New Yoga Bag Designs + Holiday Sale

Shivangi Parikh

Hello My Dears!

I am super excited to launch our latest designs in yoga mat bags! So far, all my yoga bags have been designed as vertical carriers, but with this one we changed things up a bit. Some of you suggested I try a horizontal yoga mat bag because its easier to distribute the weight of the mat. Well, here we are :)

What makes this bag so special? Its made from my favorite fabric of the year: khadi. You guys have probably heard me talk about this cotton-hemp blend all year round, but I do so for a good reason. The fabric is woven by artisans in India who are able to support their families and the local economies. The fabric is super strong, and its organic woven texture is simple, yet gorgeous!! Take a look for yourself.

The yoga mat bag is reinforced with double seams and a lining. There is a pocket for your phone and small wallet. The length of the bag is ample so you can tuck in your water bottle in the front. This bag is perfect for all your standard yoga mats, i.e. 24"W x 72"L.

The best part, its going for a really good price point of $29.99, which is the same you would pay for any mass produced bag at a sporting goods store...why not get something handmade and unique for the same price!

These bags are going to be listed on my shop and my Etsy store. They are just in time for the holidays :) Speaking of, starting now I will be running a special promotion for the holidays.

Take 10% off your total of more than $25 by using code HOLIDAY10 at checkout. Take 20% off when you spend more than $60 by using code HOLIDAY20 at checkout.

Have a great weekend :)
